My independent study of the claims made by Michael Moore in the film Fahrenheit 9-11.

I am not a Democrat or a Republican; I am an Independent that has no choice but to vote for one of two politicians offered for my consideration. I love America, I was born and raised here and I have raised my family here. Anyone who even thinks for a microsecond that an everyday, average working American like me has some need to support the left or the right over truth and justice has lost their mind to the sickness that spews from our corporate mass media system.

Brothers and sisters, I am not your friend or enemy; I am a fellow citizen and a neighbor. I am the guy who watches the neighborhood, keeps out of trouble with the law, goes to work everyday, pays his debts, bills and taxes, and hopes for a better future for his family and country. I realized that hoping for a better future is hopeless without action and this research is one of many ways I can contribute to my country.

Read this with an open mind and in the end if you don ’t find yourself filled with questions and anger, I guess the weapons of mass media have won your soul. If you are too busy or you don ’t really care about what is going on, I guess the terrorists have won your mind. Belief in Freedom of Speech requires the acceptance of views foreign or troubling to you. If you ignore and deny this simple fact about our most basic Freedom, you simply are not Free but bound by forces beyond your comprehension.

I hope one day you can stand in my shoes and see what has become so clearly obvious to me. Coincidence can be written off or justified; but, the rich and powerful don ’t get rich and powerful on chance and coincidence, they study the system and they act to move friends and family into the critical decision path to ensure the outcomes they seek. This is not called conspiracy theory, it ’s called gamesmanship and institutional reality and the common man is too kind and egalitarian to even imagine how the game of wealth and power is played. It took me many days to compile this; the least you can do is take ten minutes to read it.

The following are my notes from watching Fahrenheit 911and my personal research to either verify or discredit the claims made by Michael Moore. Of the twenty most damaging claims made, I found sufficient evidence that nineteen were factually correct. I have provided links to the fifty-six credible sources I found to come to this conclusion. The so called lies offered by Moore cited by the Republican ’s GOP.com web site are not backed up by any sources, so they are not credible. Using fallacious arguments to refute well researched arguments is an insult to my fellow American ’s who proudly call themselves Republican.

In the process of this research, I have found and additional twenty-three pieces of information that are very troubling and need more research. I have provided thirty-five additional links to these items which all American ’s should review before voting.

Obviously, one can refute or discredit anything I have found; but, to do so without watching the movie and finding even more convincing and reliable counter sources would only prove that you prefer not to think and only to parrot the message recorded into your brain by your mass favorite media sources.

Please don ’t vote on emotions and misinformation, do America the justice she deserves and do your homework outside of the partisan and biased media sources that saturate us daily with propaganda.

For me, the most disturbing part of this research is how little the major news media has covered most of these incredibly important issues. Another point that is obvious to me is that most American ’s cannot differentiate between valid and sound arguments and those which use fallacy.

Claim #1) All the major networks and their highly trained and experienced election desk staff called Gore the winner in Florida and of the 2000 Presidential election. Fox News called Bush the winner and it just so happens that the manager of the Fox Election Desk, Mr. John Ellis is the first cousin of George Bush.

Research Result: True

Yes, it just so happens, Bush ’s first cousin also happened to be the man who called Bush the winner.

Claim #2) The Secretary of State in Florida, Ms. Kathleen Harris also happened to be Bush ’s Campaign Manager in Florida. Harris and Florida Governor Jeb Bush (who happens to be George ’s brother) manipulated the vote count in favor of Bush. Moore also claims the US Supreme court is a group of Bush friends that ruled in his favor.

Research Result: True

Yes, the two most powerful people in the state of Florida that oversee the election process just happened to be Bush ’s campaign manager and brother. Florida, for the first time in the history of the United States, hired a private consulting firm (Database Technologies) to data mine the voter records. They also just happened to be awarded this business without having to bid on this multi-million dollar contract. They were supposedly going to pull the names of 8,000 felons from the voter records. The company just happened to make the error of including all the people with the same last names and same birthdates of the felons. The result was the removal of 57,700 names from the eligible voter records. It was later determined that the list was 90% inaccurate and as much as 80% were African American ’s most likely to be Democrats.

Additionally, Florida also used a poorly designed Butterfly ballot with misleading positioning of the Presidential candidate names. Many of the voters said they had expected Gore and Bush to be the first two choices, as Florida law requires. Instead, they found Buchanan, on the opposite page, between them. The review of over-votes was conducted between January 17 and January 29. “Last year, Brady calculated that at least 2,000 of Buchanan's 3,424 Palm Beach County votes were meant for Gore. If that were true, Gore's total gain -- with the over votes -- might have been as much as 8,600 votes, the paper said. ”

The recount was ruled unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court, it just so happens they did in-fact vote in accordance with the party of the presidents that appointed them: seven Republican and two Democrat. Bush won by only 537 votes.

Claim #3) Bush witnessed the largest protest to ever happen during a presidential inauguration.

Research Result: False

Although 20,000 angry protesters did block the inaugural procession, it was smaller than the protest experienced by Nixon in 1973. Of course, Nixon had 57,000 deaths of American soldiers to take responsibility for.

Claim #4) Bush spent 42% of his first eight months on the job as President on vacation.

Research Result: True

Although to be fair, much of this time is classified as a "working vacation." Some might consider playing golf and yachting with dignitaries and officials as a form of work. Clinton only took off 152 days in eight years; Bush exceeded this in his first eight months.

Claim #5) Bush was told about the first plane striking the World Trade Center and he still went on a planned visit to a school classroom. During the visit, he was told of the second plane striking the second trade center and he sat with a blank stare, unable to take any action for seven minutes while the children read to him.

Claim #6) The President ’s daily briefing on August 6, 2001 included a top secret CIA memo titled: “bin Laden determined to strike US ”and included reference to following in the foot steps of the World Trade Center bomber in 1993.

Claim #7) The Taliban visited Unocal Corp in Huston, Texas when G.W. Bush was the Governor of Texas to discuss a deal with Unocal to build a natural gas pipeline through Afghanistan.

Research Result: True

I found that the Taliban did meet with Unocal to discuss the pipeline and in fact a major deal was signed shortly thereafter.

Claim #8) Immediately following 9-11, 142 Saudi ’s, including 24 members of the bin-Laden family were allowed to leave the United States. Even though the FAA banned all air travel and FBI Investigator Jack Cloonan admitted on tape that common sense detective work would have required that these people be interrogated or at least interviewed for any knowledge of the involvement of their family member Osama in the WTC and Pentagon attacks.

Yes, the bin-Laden ’s flew out of the USA without interrogation. The evidence is conflicting over the one flight actually granted on 9-11. Apparently, the request was made of Richard Clark, who granted approval.

The National Commission on Terrorist attacks claim no flights to Saudi Arabia were allowed to leave until 9/13. If I killed somebody, certainly the police would want to speak with my family members about their knowledge of my whereabouts and activities leading up to the crime. A bin-Laden and 15 Saudi Arabian ’s just killed over 3,000 American ’s and took billions out of our economy and we allowed 142 Saudis, including 24 bin-Laden ’s to return to Saudi Arabia.

Claim #9) Osama thanked the USA for helping him fight the Communists during the 1980 ’s in Afghanistan.

Research Result: True

“PBS asks Saudi Prince Bandar: But bin Laden himself [went] to the royal family when the invasion of Kuwait took place, and said, "We will defend Saudi Arabia," as I understand it, meaning he and the Afghan Arabs or the Saudis. ...
Answer: No. That is not true. Bin Laden used to come to us when America -- underline, America -- through the CIA and Saudi Arabia were helping our brother mujahedeen in Afghanistan to get rid of the communist, secularist Soviet Union forces, to liberate them. ... I would like to point out that Osama was preparing an army to fight against Saddam and Iraq in 1990 before the Saudi royal family called in the American ’s. There was no love between Saddam and Osama as Iraq was a secular country and lacking strict Muslim leadership like the Taliban.

Claim #10) The military records of George Bush were altered. He and another soldier were suspended from duty for not taking a medical exam which includes a drug check. The other soldier ’s name was blacked out and earlier records obtained by Moore showed the name James R. Bath. James R. Bath just also happened to be a Director with the corrupt and now bankrupt BCCI and a money manager for the bin-Laden family.

Research Result: True

This is the most disturbing part of what this movie has revealed is the stomach turning connection between the Bush family and the bin-Laden family and people like Kenneth Lay of Enron and many high ranking federal and corporate officials who just happen to be multi-millionaire energy and defense industry executives and investors tied in numerous ways to Saudi Arabia. James R. Bath was a CIA liaison to Saudi Arabia and just so happened to be the Texas money manager for the Salem bin-Laden, the leader of the very wealthy bin-Laden family and Osama ’s older brother. Remember George Bush Sr. was actually the CIA Director in 1976 and 1977!

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network -- known as FinCEN -- and the FBI are reviewing accusations that entrepreneur James R. Bath guided money to Houston from Saudi investors who wanted to influence US policy under the Reagan and Bush administrations …

According to White, Bath told him that he had assisted the CIA in a liaison role with Saudi Arabia since 1976. Bath has previously denied having worked for the CIA . . . After the death of Salem bin-Laden in 1988, Bath represented Khalid bin Mafouz, who had taken over the bin- Laden interests. The two also formed a partnership with Gaith Pharaon, who was the front man for BCCI in Houston.

Claim #11) In 1980, the attorney ’s for Harkin Oil informed management not to sell any of their stock to avoid illegal insider trading. George W. Bush went ahead and sold anyway. The President, George Bush, Sr. did not approve of an SEC investigation into his son ’s trading and it just so happened that no investigation was performed.

Two months before Iraq invaded Kuwait, on June 20, 1990, George W. sold two-thirds of his near worthless Harken stock, 212,140 shares at $4 a share-for a total of $848,560.

Look at the stomach turning connections that helped Bush stay out of Jail. Martha Stewart made only a fraction of what Bush received in his transaction and look at the media frenzy and punishment she had to suffer.

Dallas attorney Robert Jordan was confirmed in October of 2001 by the United States Senate to serve as ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Jordan has no diplomatic experience. However, his connections leave no doubt as to why he was named to the post. He defended George W. Bush in a probe of insider trading allegations in 1990. The allegations involved the sale by Bush of 60% of his Harken Energy Corp. stocks two months before a 25% drop in the stock's price. According to a 7 Sep 2000 article by the Associated Press, "At the time of the investigation, Bush's father was president of the United States and the SEC was run by one of his biggest political supporters, Richard Breeden. The SEC's then-general counsel, James R. Doty, was another staunch presidential supporter who as a private attorney was George W. Bush's lawyer when he purchased his share of the Texas Rangers baseball team."

Carlyle just happens to be the 11th largest defense contractor in the United States and owners of United Defense, the makers of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. George Bush, Sr. was Carlyle ’s liaison to Saudi Arabia.

Claim #15) NSA Counter-Terrorism Advisor told by Bush to find a connection between Iraq and al-Qaeda and not bin-Laden.

Richard Clarke, who was the counter-terrorism adviser on the U.S. National Security Council when the September 11 attacks occurred and had served the NSA and State Department for 19 years was asked repeatedly by Bush to find a connection between Iraq or Saddam and al-Qaeda and not to focus on bin-Laden. Clark admits on camera that this was true. Clark also wrote in his book of telling Bush "But, you know, we have looked several times for state sponsorship of al Qaeda and not found any real linkages to Iraq. Iran plays a little, as does Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, Yemen."

Claim #17) "Former FBI acting director Thomas J. Pickard, told the commission that Ashcroft had little interest in terrorism in the summer of 2001"

Research Result: True

Thomas J. Pickard, who served as the FBI's "second in command" to oversee the September 11, 2001 "attacks and anthrax investigations," retired at the end of November 2001.

This is corroborated by the Washington Post's Walter Pincus and Dan Eggen, who write on April 10, 2004, "Former FBI acting director Thomas J. Pickard, who will also testify, has told the commission in private that Ashcroft had little interest in terrorism in the summer of 2001, numerous sources have said."

Claim #18) US uses napalm bombs in Iraq

Research Result: True

The Pentagon said it had not tried to deceive when they stated they did not use napalm in Iraq. It drew a distinction between traditional napalm, first invented in 1942, and the weapons dropped in Iraq, which it calls Mark 77 firebombs. They weigh 510lbs, and consist of 44lbs of polystyrene-like gel and 63 gallons of jet fuel. Mark 77 is technically not napalm but it functions in the same manner.

Claim #18) Bush and Rumsfeld boast on film about the international support for our preemptive strike on Iraq and call it thee | ”Coalition for the Willing ”and “The Mother of All Coalitions. ”The only thing not mentioned was these countries were all insignificant and had little to no military power.

Research Result: True

The coalition was truly nothing more than the UK and a list of obscure little countries with no military or financial power to speak of.

This year Bush proposed increasing prescription drugs costs for veterans. The Bush plan would have included a new $250 enrollment fee and a co pay increase from $7 to $15 for veterans earning over $24,000. On July 21, the House Appropriations Committee agreed to a Democratic amendment to reject the Bush fee increases and recoup the $264 million in costs by reducing administrative funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Bush Decided To Cut Benefits For Middle-Income Veterans
On January 16, 2003, the Bush Administration announced it would cut access to health care benefits for 160,000 middle-income veterans due to budget constraints. John Pettyjohn, an Oklahoma veteran who served in Vietnam, said of the cuts, "On one hand, we're sending our sons and daughters out to war and possibly to die, yet on the other hand we're punishing a certain class of veterans who've made money in their lives. Even the children of military families face cuts under Bush. As he was sending troops to Iraq, Bush proposed cutting $200 million in Impact Aid educational assistance to children in military families. During the 2000 campaign, Bush has promised to increase this funding by $310 million, saying, "Our men and women in service put their lives on the line to defend our freedom. We have a special obligation to rebuild the schools that educate their children." An obligation that Bush isn't interested in meeting when the cameras are off. The film shows two recruiters that give young men a very false impression of the great things the service will do for them. One tells a black kid interested in music that he can be in the Marine Corp Band and get the training he will need to manage the millions he will earn in the music business. Warren Buffett, possibly the second richest man on Earth, schedules a morning charity event inside Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. A number of CEOs who would otherwise have been in the WTC attend. Attendees had just arrived when the first WTC attack occurs. This base is the center of the nation's military defenses, and the same base that Bush will fly to later in the day. The timing, probable attendance, and location of the meeting is curious, to say the least, as is the total lack of any mention of the meeting anywhere, except for one aside by a business leader (Anne Tatlock, CEO and President of Fiduciary and Franklin)explaining why she survived the WTC attack. C) Harkin Oil used corrupt accounting practices to fool the public and SEC of its financial condition.

G.W. Bush was a Director for Harkin Oil and he sat on its financial oversight committee. The scam was caught by the SEC and the same type of financial engineering was later used by Enron. It just so happens that Enron's CEO, Ken Lay, was Bush ’s his single largest campaign contributor.
Harken masked its 1989 losses by selling 80 percent of a subsidiary, Aloha Petroleum, to a partnership of Harken insiders called International Marketing & Resources for $12 million. Of that sum, $11 million came from a note held by Harken. In January 1990, IMR in turn sold its stake in Aloha to a privately held company called Advance Petroleum Marketing, and the Harken loan was effectively transferred to Advance.
In brief, Harken insiders borrowed money from their own company to buy a subsidiary at an inflated price. Then they booked sales revenue that didn't exist as profit. Then they got rid of the loan that had provided the revenue that never really existed. This is the kind of deal that made Enron famous. Harken's accounting firm just happened to be Arthur Andersen.

Salem bin Laden came to an "unexpected dead end" in a Texas pasture, 11 years after investing in Arbusto, when the ultra light aircraft he was flying crashed into power lines near San Antonio on Memorial Day, 1988.

On the morning of May 29, 1988, almost immediately after takeoff, Salem bin Laden's aircraft struck and became entangled in power lines 150 feet high before plunging to the ground. "He was a very experienced pilot. We just can't understand why he decided to go right instead of left," recalled airstrip owner and former Marine Earl May field, who cradled bin Laden, bleeding from the ears.

"Nobody could figure out why he tried to fly over the power lines," said Gerry Auerbach, 77, of New Braunfels, a retired pilot. Bin Laden had more than 15,000 hours of flight experience. The police report concluded "freak accident."

Moore's agent told the New York Times that the head of Disney, Michael Eisner was concerned that Bush's brother, Florida governor Jeb Bush, would strip Disney of tax breaks on Disneyworld and other corporate holdings in Florida. Disney said the decision was made because it didn't want to be "dragged into a highly charged partisan political battle." Moore told the Times "At some point the question has to be asked, `Should this be happening in a free and open society where the monied interests essentially call the shots regarding the information that the public is allowed to see?'"

Aug. 16, 2004 | LOS ANGELES (AP) -- President Bush will face a home-video barrage four weeks before the election: "Fahrenheit 9/11," Michael Moore's assault on Bush's handling of the Sept. 11 attacks, debuts on DVD and videotape Oct. 5.

The announcement Tuesday confirmed Moore's initial intention to have the film out shortly before Election Day, a time frame the director favored since May's Cannes Film Festival, where "Fahrenheit 9/11" won the top honor.

After the movie debuted to record box-office numbers for a documentary, distributor Lions Gate had indicated the movie might continue playing theatrically through the end of the year, potentially delaying the home-video release.

The film has grossed $115 million domestically, the first documentary ever to top the $100 million mark.

Sony's Columbia TriStar home entertainment unit will release "Fahrenheit 9/11" on DVD and videotape.

Among DVD extras will be a featurette examining the release of "Fahrenheit 9/11," which lost its theatrical distributor last spring after Disney refused to let subsidiary Miramax handle the film because of its political content. Miramax bosses Harvey and Bob Weinstein bought back the film and lined up distribution through Lions Gate and IFC Films.

Also featured on the DVD will be:

_ Deleted footage that includes a scene outside Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, where seven U.S. soldiers have been charged with abusing Iraqi prisoners.

_ Coverage of Lila Lipscomb -- the mother of a U.S. soldier killed in Iraq, who was featured prominently in "Fahrenheit 9/11" -- at the film's premiere in Washington.

_ An examination of the acts and experiences of Arab-American comedians after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Aug. 14, 2004 | BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) -- Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" is provoking strong Arab reaction. Kuwait banned it, Jordan tried to cut it, Syria has not decided, and Saudi commentators are denouncing it.

Many Arab moviegoers say with a twinge of envy that they wish the region, where free speech is for the most part restricted, had its own Moore. Some say it reinforces their bad image of the United States and shows Americans what their own media does not.

A few believe Moore is unfair to President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

"When he condemned the war in Iraq ... he pictured it this way: Baghdad was happy and safe until cowboys Bush and Blair came," Saudi columnist Reem al-Saleh wrote in Kuwait's Al-Siyassah daily.

"He ignored 30 years of muscle-flexing invasions, villages massacred by chemical weapons ... millions of bodies, and mass graves. He has no right to hide the full truth."

Saddam invaded Kuwait in 1990 and was driven out by the U.S.-led 1991 Gulf War. Many Kuwaitis are grateful to the United States and enduringly suspicious of Saddam.

Gianluca Chacra, whose Dubai-based company released the film in the Middle East, said attendance is at blockbuster proportions.

"We were quite scared that due to the Saudi content it might not pass," Chacra said.

In the United Arab Emirates, the information minister, in an unusual step, asked to see it first, then approved it. In Jordan, the censors insisted the Saudi content be cut, Chacra said. They later took the film to "higher authorities," who OK'd it in full, he added.

Kuwait banned the film on the spot, Chacra said. He did not bother showing it to the censors in Saudi Arabia, where there are no movie theaters, only videos.

The movie is playing in the remaining four Gulf Cooperation Council countries. In Syria, Yousef Dakalbab, head of distribution at the government-run Public Cinema Organization, said the film "may be shown or may be banned."

"Fahrenheit 9/11" is playing in Lebanon and Israel and will open in Egypt later this month.

Emerging from a Beirut theater, 22-year-old student Shafiq Nassif said the film showed dead and mutilated Iraqis that Americans do not see much of on their TV screens.

"It's good that Americans can get to see this," he said.

For Radwan Rizk, a 47-year-old Lebanese gym owner, the message was double-edged: Moore's presentation shook his idea of American democracy, yet reinforced it, too.

"I hope that we can come to a point where we can criticize our own governments the way he did -- freely," Rizk said.

Dalal el-Bizri, a Lebanese sociologist based in Cairo, Egypt, warned that the movie "should not be allowed to reinforce the hatred that people feel for America."

"If you have a problem with the United States, hatred will not solve it," she said.

In Cairo, 28-year-old Noha Sayed Al-Ahl, who runs an arts and culture advocacy group, did not find the film tendentious.

Moore "used real footage and facts to support his point of view and used as much proof as possible to back up his claims. If he hadn't, somebody would have taken him to court," she said. "He really cares about America and the foreign policies of America and is brave enough to speak his mind and interpret events in an alternative way."

In a Beirut gym, two women in their 40s discussed the movie as they worked out.

"I loved the movie because it showed that Bush was a partner in terrorism through his dealings with the Saudis and (Osama) bin Laden's family," said Sana Rafeh, a preschool teacher.

Housewife Rabab Itani said Moore's take on terrorism was too narrow.

"There are Arabs and Muslims dying from America's policies every day and not only because of the Bush-Saudi connection," she said. Many said the funniest parts were those depicting Bush, but Jordanian Tareq Khalil said he still believes "America is the most powerful country in the world and Bush is the strongest man."

Sulaiman al-Hattlan, a U.S.-educated Saudi columnist for the Al-Watan newspaper, said Moore lacked objectivity, and made too much of the U.S. Saudi relationship.

"The movie is using the Saudis as scapegoats for domestic, political issues in the U.S.," he said.

Still, al-Hattlan enjoyed "Fahrenheit 9/11."

"In every Arab country we need one Michael Moore or more," he said.

Absolutely! But so is everything else that is distributed en-mass for mass consumption.

Does this mean the merit of the film's content is suspect?
Shouldn't the content of any film or broadcast to mass audience be suspect?

Does this mean the message behind the film is designed to influence opinion?
Absolutely! Why do you think products/brands are becoming more and more overt in terms of placement in films/movies? To influence the audience to buy the product.

Does this mean that Michael Moore is subversive and conniving?
Uhh..heh... that, I feel is open for each and every viewer to determine on their own.

Watch the movie. Contemplate the content. Draw your own conclusions. Most importantly, be an informed voter. Seek truth. Do not accept grandiose media trends as truth. Be your own person.

Discussing whether or not Micheal Moore is hypocritical, fat, worthless, has ulterior motives, is a liar, pays his bills late, smells like roasted turkey etc, blah-blah-blah, is about as productive as debating religion/abortion etc.

I, for one, am happy to see someone, somewhere, stand up and present an alternate viewpoint on our current state of society. Alternate to what we are being spoon-fed by mass media, news programs, Wal-Mart etc.
